Iago Herrerín Suffers Muscle Injury In Training At Lezama
After seeing Kepa Arrizabalaga leave Athletic Club to join Chelsea the starting goalkeeper role is Iago Herrerín’s to lose. The 30-year-old has proven that he is capable of playing at a high level in the Primera and is excited about the idea of protecting the goal at the San Mamés. That being said, there has already been set-back as he suffered an injury in training.
On Thursday Athletic Club announced that Iago Herrerín had suffered a muscle injury in his right arm. The knock happened towards the end of training and the goalkeeper had to leave the field and did not return. He looked to be in pain and the club said that he will be undergoing further tests to determine the extent of the injury. The hope is that it isn’t anything serious and he will be able to return quickly.
While Herrerín is out nursing his injury the baton will fall to Alex Remiro who will also have the chance to battle for the starting lineup. The 23-year-old has been standing in Kepa’s shadows since the two were small boys at Lezama and Remiro is ready to prove himself. Manager Eduardo Berizzo has already said that he is happy with the goalkeepers that are currently in the team, but will be hoping for good news with Herrerín as his absence currently leaves Athletic with only one player available in Remiro.
