Sabin Merino Has Rejected Offers To Leave Athletic Club With Hopes Of Proving Himself
Sabin Merino has struggled to play at a high level over the last two years and looked to be headed towards the exit door all summer. With his contract set to expire next year it has appeared as though his time at Athletic was quickly coming to an end, but the 26-year-old has no plans to leave the San Mamés. He is determined to prove himself and earn a contract extension.
According to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo, Sabin Merino has had several offers to leave Athletic this summer, some from La Liga, and has rejected every single one. He’s made up his mind that he will not listen to any more offers and he is only interested in staying at Athletic and fighting to convince manager Eduardo Berizzo. His biggest hope is to earn a new contract, but if not he will leave from free next year.
So far Leganés are the club who have pushed the hardest to sign the striker, but have failed to convince the player. By staying at Athletic Sabin Merino knows that it will be very difficult to enjoy regular minutes, but he is determined to fight for his place. He wants to continue his career at his boyhood club so this will be a defining season for the Lezama product.
