Chelsea Have Contacted Kepa Arrizabalaga Who Trained Normally At Lezama On Tuesday
It’s been less than 24 hours since news broke that Chelsea have identified Kepa Arrizabalaga as their top choice to replace Thibaut Courtois. With the English transfer window closing on Thursday the London-based club are in a race against time to sign a new goalkeeper. As expected, the decision will ultimately come down to Kepa.
According to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo, Chelsea contacted Kepa on Tuesday morning and explained that they are willing to pay his €80 million release clause. The club has also proposed a contract offer in hopes of convincing to the 23-year-old who will now make the final decision about his future. The goalkeeper has been given 24 hours to respond to Chelsea’s offer which would raise his current wages.
Despite being contacted Tuesday morning, Kepa was with his teammates in regular training in the afternoon. The Lezama product rejected an approach from Real Madrid last season and opted to sign a contract extension with Athletic in January. The new deal saw Kepa become one of the highest paid players in the team as he pledged his future to the San Mamés through 2025. As things stand right now there is an offer on the table and Kepa will be the one to make a decision.
