Raúl García Returns To Full Training After Suffering Thigh Injury
It has been nearly two weeks since Raúl García sustained a muscle injury in his thigh during training. Because of the set-back the midfielder has yet to feature in a friendly match this summer and only just recently was able to participate in some drills with his teammates. Conditioning coach Pablo Fernández said on Wednesday that García was already at 80% and there was even better news the following day.
On Thursday the 32-year-old was fully integrated into the team and was able to participate in every part of the training session at Lezama. He showed no signs of discomfort and looked strong throughout the day. At one point Berizzo ran a drill where three attackers faced two defenders with the goal of the wingers creating chances from the wide area and García was as aggressive as ever.
In the meantime, Iñigo Martinez is still working hard to return to the team as soon as possible. Since the squad returned from Holland the defender has been running on his own with trainer Xabier Clemente and Pablo Fernández stated that he hopes Martinez can resume training next week. The goal is to have the 27-year-old available for the start of the La Liga season when Athletic will host Leganés at the San Mamés on 20 August.
