Huesca Willing To Wait For Alex Remiro As Renewal Talks Continue With Athletic Club
Alex Remiro made a name for himself while on loan with Huesca last season. He was the best goalkeeper in the Segunda and proved that he is ready to test himself in the first division. Everything seemed fairly straight forward going into this summer. The 23-year-old was expected to sign a renewal with Athletic and then return to Huesca for their first year in the Primera. However, things have not gone according to plan.
Remiro has made it clear that he wants to play for Huesca this season, but he isn’t as keen on signing a contract extension with Athletic. The goalkeeper understands that it will be very hard for him to feature for the first team with Kepa Arrizabalaga entrenched as the starter and believes that he may not have a future at the club. He hasn’t completely closed the door on a new deal, but wants a guarantee that he will have a place in the team before putting pen to paper.
With his current deal set to expire next summer, Remiro will only leave on loan if he signs a contract extension. That puts Huesca in a difficult position, but according to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo they are willing to wait for the goalkeeper. Remiro remains their top priority this summer and they are being patient with the entire process.
In the meantime, Eduardo Berizzo has already made up his mind about the goalkeepers in his team. Kepa Arrizabalaga will remain the starter and Iago Herrerín will continue as the backup. Remiro has shown the promise and potential to become one of the best goalkeepers in Spain and Athletic are hoping that a renewal agreement can be reached. If not, he is expected to stay with the first team. The ultimate goal is to secure his future at the San Mamés and send him to Huesca on another loan deal, but the Lions will have to work hard to convince the 23-year-old to sign a new contract.
