Oscar De Marcos And Cristian Ganea Train In Attacking Roles
Eduardo Berizzo has not been shy about trying new things with the Athletic Club squad. He’s already switched wings for Iñaki Williams and Iñigo Córdoba, moved Iker Muniain centrally, and has converted Andoni López and Peru Nolaskoain to a center-backs. Well, there is more where that came from. According to Juanma Velasco of Marca the manager has continued to test ideas while in Holland.
It is no secret that Berizzo loves versatile players. He made that very clear in his first press conference and has already used players in different positions in the first two friendlies. After the first training session of the year he highlighted the likes of Oscar De Marcos and Cristian Ganea for their abilities to operate in different roles and is now putting that to the test. The pair have spent time training in more attacking roles over the last few days with Ganea being used as a left-wing and De Marcos playing behind the striker or in the midfield.
At the same time, Berizzo is said to be really high on Oihan Sancet and has given him the chance to train in every midfield role this summer. The 18-year-old is expected to play with Bilbao Athletic this season which would keep him close to the first team where he would be available if needed. The manager has even given Sancet the nickname Flaco, or Skinny.
Athletic will be playing a scrimmage game later on Wednesday against Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag and Berizzo is expected to test De Marcos and Ganea as attackers. Meanwhile, Raúl García will be forced the miss the game as he is still nursing a muscle injury and could even be unavailable for the Traditions Cup tournament over the weekend. There is not concern over the injury being anything serious, but the club is taking precaution with the 32-year-old.
