Córdoba “Yuri Berchiche Is A Terrific Player”
Iñigo Córdoba is ready to contribute more in his second season with the senior squad and could get the chance to play in a different position. New manager Eduardo Berizzo has been testing the 21-year-old on the right wing, but the player still believes that he is more comfortable on the left. Córdoba was able to play in his natural role during Wednesday’s friendly in Holland where he linked up with new signing Yuri Berchiche and took the time to praise his new teammate after the match.
“Yuri is a terrific player. He’s very offensive and is comfortable to play with. This group is very good and it has been easy learning how to play together. And, because of last season, I already know how to play with Mikel [Balenziaga]. I would say that I am more comfortable on the left because I have spent more time there, but I am at the disposal of the coach.”
By giving Córdoba time on the right it has also allowed Iñaki Williams to be tested on the left wing where he is able to cut inside on his stronger foot. Eduardo Berizzo has been trying several new ideas this summer and most have brought excitement to the fans, such as moving Iker Muniain to Mediapunta. New signings like Yuri Berchiche and Dani García are expected to play major roles in the team this season as the Lions look to get back into European competition.
