La Liga Schedule Released | Key Dates For Athletic Club’s Calendar

Team Training

The 2018/2019 Athletic Club de Bilbao team (AC)

The La Liga schedule has finally been released and that means that fans finally have a countdown to look forward to. Athletic Club are looking to turn things around after a disappointing campaign under Kuko Ziganda and new manager Eduardo Berizzo has brought newfound hope and expectations. There is plenty to look forward to this year and that is why it is important to take note of some key dates.

Athletic will begin their season on 19 August by hosting Leganés at the San Mamés, followed by a second consecutive home game against newly promoted Huesca. The Lions will play their first match on the road against Rayo Vallecano. From there things will get difficult as the Basques will play a stretch of fixtures against Real Madrid, Real Betis, Villarreal, Barcelona, Real Sociedad, Eibar, Valencia, Espanyol, and Atlético Madrid.

Fans should already have on eye on the first Basque Derby of the year which will take place on Matchday 8 against Real Sociedad at Anoeta. The game is scheduled to take place during the weekend of 7 October. Interestingly, the following Matchday will also be another Basque Derby when the Lions will host Eibar at the San Mamés.

The second half of the season will see difficult matchups a bit more spread out, but there will be an exciting end to the year. The last two games of the campaign will see the Lions face off with Celta Vigo and Sevilla, the previous teams coached by Eduardo Berizzo before taking over at Athletic. Although La Liga is extremely difficult the ultimate goal will be qualifying for Europe and making a deep run in the Copa del Rey. The club has worked hard to bring in new talent and correct problem areas this summer and that should have fans optimistic heading into the new season.
