Eduardo Berizzo Is Excited To Start The Season At The San Mamés
The La Liga schedule was officially announced on Tuesday and there were plenty of talking points. Athletic’s campaign will begin with a match against Leganés at the San Mamés, but also contains stretched against difficult opponents. Manager Eduardo Berizzo took the time to discuss the calendar, saying that he is excited to begin the year at home.
“I think it’s good to start the season at home. To debut before your own fans is an incentive because they will be eager to see their team. I like starting at home and being able to play two consecutive matches at the San Mamés. I am hoping for a very exciting start to the season for the the fans. It will be a test to get them excited and we have to start strong at home.”
The La Liga calendar was also altered this year in a way that is not symmetrical. That means the the second half of the season won’t mirror the first half. Berizzo isn’t worried about that because he knows that every game is important, no matter what time of the year you face an opponent.
“They have their reasons. The schedule is fine. This league is so competitive that every game is worthy of analysis and concern. Any schedule forces you to have your guard up because it’s a league where things can change every week. We will end the season against Celta Vigo and Sevilla, two clubs that I know well. I know they will want to win just as badly as we want to win.”
Athletic are currently training abroad in Holland where they will end the trip by participating in the Traditions Cup in Germany, hosted by Duisburg. The Lions have less than a month until the La Liga season officially kicks off and Eduardo Berizzo is doing everything to ensure that his team is ready for Leganés.
