Team Training

Eduardo Berizzo has called up 29 players for the trip to Holland (AC)

Athletic have played their first two friendlies of the preseason, scoring 8 total goals against Amorebieta and Barakaldo without conceding once, and will now be traveling out of the country for their yearly week-long training trip. This summer the Lions will be spending a week in Holland which will culminate with a tournament in Germany hosted by Duisburg. On Sunday the club officially announced the squad that will participate in the trip which also revealed the first round of roster cuts.

Iñigo Martinez was left behind as he is still recovering from a muscle injury. The defender was not going to be able to train or play so staying in Bilbao to rest was seen as the best decision. Unai Simón and Xabi Etxeita were also left off of the list. Simón is expected to leave on loan this summer and Etxeita is currently in talks to join Elche. Meanwhile, Iñigo Vicente and Iñigo Muñoz did not receive the call to travel to Holland. The pair will likely return to Bilbao Athletic at this point.

Despite suffering a muscle injury in training, Raúl García was included in the group as he is expected to make a quick recovery. Kepa Arrizabalaga will also be joining the team on Monday after being allowed an extended vacation due to competing with Spain at the World Cup. Eduardo Berizzo has called up 29 players in total for the trip and will continue to assess the squad as the team prepares for the start of the season.
