Raúl García Suffers Mild Muscle Injury In Training
Athletic were back in training Saturday morning ahead of their friendly with Barakaldo and it was a time to prepare the team for another important match. The Lions performed well in their first preseason fixture against Amorebieta and the hope is to see the team continue to build on that momentum over the next few weeks. However, there is one player who will have to miss the game at Lesesarre.
After training, the club announced that Raúl García had suffered a mild muscle injury in his thigh and will be monitored over the next few days to determine his recovery time. The fact that there was no mention of further tests likely means that the injury really is slight and that the 32-year-old should be back soon. He is still expected to travel with the team to Holland on Monday for their training trip.
Raúl García looks set to play a major role under new manager Eduardo Berizzo, although it may be different than the one he’s had in recent years. Toto loves the idea of utilizing Iker Muniain as the attacking midfielder which could see García pushed out on the wing or spending some time as a striker. Regardless, Rulo has proven that he is a very important player and will need to have another great year if the team is going to challenge for a place in Europe this season.
