Elche Eyeing A Loan Move For Athletic Club’s Unai Simón
Unai Simón has a great future ahead of him. The 21-year-old has spent the last two years as the starting goalkeeper for Bilbao Athletic and has shown that he has the potential to become a special player. He’s currently spending the preseason with the first team, but the goal is to extend his contract (which expires next summer) and to send him out on loan in the Segunda.
A recent report revealed that almost every club in the second division has reached out to Athletic to express interest in signing Simón. In fact, a few from the Primera have even probed the situation. Things have been kept under wraps to this point, but one interested team has finally come to light. According to a report from M.H. Marcos of AS, Elche have already contacted Athletic and have asked about taking Simón on loan. The club is in need of another goalkeeper to compete with 39-year-old José Juan and have identified Simón as their top target.
The goal is to send Simón somewhere that he will be guaranteed playing time so that he can continue developing, but reaching a renewal agreement will come first. The two sides are currently working to finalize a four-year extension that will be signed before allowing the keeper to leave on loan. The Lions view the 21-year-old as someone who could become an important player at the San Mamés and they will analyze every offer to try to make the best decision for his future.
