Peru Nolaskoain Suffers Sprained Ankle In Tuesday Training Session
The Txurrigorri were back to work on Tuesday with their training session beginning at 9:30 in the morning. As expected, there were a lot of drills with the ball and manager Eduardo Berizzo conducted everything from the center of the field while also moving around to teach and correct. At one point he organized a high intensity drill focused on pressing and during the sequence a player picked up the first injury of the preseason.
Peru Nolaskoain pulled up limping and had to be attended to by the medical team. As he was helped off of the training pitch he was able to put pressure on his foot, but it was clear that he was in pain. Afterwards, Doctor Josean Lekue gave a press conference to provide an update on all players and revealed that the 19-year-old had suffered a sprained left ankle but that it didn’t look serious.
Nolaskoain is one of the few youth prospects that have been given the opportunity to train with the first team during the preseason. Berizzo has made it clear that everyone has the chance to fight for a place in the team and there is belief that the midfielder could make waves this summer. His ankle injury will certainly be a set back, evidenced by his anger at having to leave the field on Tuesday, but the hope is that he won’t miss an extended period of time. The players will be back at Lezama tonight at 5:30pm to work in the gym.
