Eduardo Berizzo has prepared an intense first week of training sessions (AC)

The Eduardo Berizzo will officially begin on Monday when Athletic Club players will report back to Lezama for the start of preseason training. Toto will have 34 players at his disposal, which he will need to trim down quite a bit, and it won’t be long before the team starts playing friendly matches to prepare for the upcoming season. With only a short amount of time at his disposal, Berizzo has planned an intense first week of training.

Athletic Club recently announced the schedule for this week and it is definitely full. The players will begin training Monday morning at 9:30 followed by team pictures and a press conference by Berizzo. Afterwards there will be physical tests conducted. On Tuesday practice will start at the same time followed by a press conference with club doctor, Josean Lekue, who will give an update on any player issues. Later in the day there will be more physical tests.

Wednesday is the day when things will really get going. As is usually the case during the preseason, the players will have two training sessions with one taking place at 10:00am and the other at 6:00pm. The same schedule will continue on Thursday, except there will be a player press conference following the afternoon session. On Friday there will be a bit of a break with the team only having training once, but it will be back to double sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

The club is still working on the preseason friendly schedule, but for right now the first match is scheduled to take place on 19 July against Amorebieta. That gives Berizzo just ten days to prepare his players to take the field and he will be working hard to implement his system quickly and efficiently. The Lions will also be traveling to Holland from 23 July through 29 July where they will train abroad and compete in a tournament in Germany. The new season is right around the corner and that means that it’s time for hard work.
