Oihan Sancet And Aitor Paredes Win The Mediterranean Games With Spain’s U18s
Oihan Sancet and Aitor Paredes won’t have much of a summer vacation due to competing in the Mediterranean Games with Spain’s U18 side. The Lezama pair were called up last month and have played major roles in the team this summer. Both started in Spain’s 4-1 win over Algeria in the opening match and Sancet scored in the second round which ended in a 2-1 victory over Morocco to reach the final.
Spain played the final on Saturday against Italy and were able to win the championship after a thrilling 3-2 win. Sancet and Paredes started once again and both had big performances on the international stage. Paredes actually scored a goal that was called offside while everything flowed through Sancet in the midfield. After Italy found an equalizer in the 87th minute Sancet nearly won the game when his header struck the crossbar, but luckily Abel Ruiz was able to grab the late winner.
Now that the tournament has ended the two starlets will be enjoying some time off before joining their teammates for preseason. Sancet will be training with the first team this summer and all players are due to report back to Lezama on 9 July, meaning he will have just over a week to relax. Paredes, who will train with Bilbao Athletic this summer, will have three additional days with the reserve team beginning their sessions on 12 July. Both Lezama graduates have shown immense potential and look poised to continue their development at a high level.
