Athletic Club Reportedly Reach An Agreement With PSG To Sign Yuri Berchiche
Yuri Berchiche is closer than ever to becoming an Athletic Club player. The PSG left-back has already agreed to personal terms with the Lions which would see him sign a four-year contract and become one of the highest paid players in the team, earning something close to €3.5 million per year. All that is left is for Athletic to come to an agreement with PSG on the transfer fee and that now looks to be decided.
According to a report from Jon Rivas of Fiebre Rojiblanco, Athletic and PSG have reached an agreement that will see the Basques pay a transfer fee of €20 million which may also contain variables that could see the price increase. The two clubs met on Wednesday in hopes of finalizing a deal which looks to be settled. Rivas says that the signing should be announced shortly, with the two clubs still needing to work out some details.
The 28-year-old will add immense quality to the squad and is expected to become the starting left-back at Athletic. He has proven himself at Real Sociedad and most recently at PSG and will bring experience and leadership to a team that will be competing to qualify for European competition. New manager Eduardo Berizzo is said to be excited about Berchiche’s signing, viewing him as someone who could be a key player in his system. If the signing does happen, Berchiche will be returning to Athletic where he spent 2005-2007 at Lezama.
PSG’s need to sell Berchiche comes from the fact that they have until the end of the month to bring in at least €17 million in order to be in compliance with Financial Fair Play. Sources in France also say that the deal with Athletic is expected to be announced by Saturday, which is the last day of June. Athletic have taken advantage of the situation in order to sign a player than many consider to be the best Basque left-back in the world right now.
