Tenerife And Real Oviedo Join The Race To Sign Athletic Club’s Gorka Guruzeta On Loan
Gorka Guruzeta is one of the crown jewels of Lezama and is already knocking on the door of the first team after another exceptional season at Bilbao Athletic. Last year he led the team in scoring with 18 goals and has been called to train with the senior squad this summer. While he will have the chance to fight for a place in the squad, the most likely scenario is that he will go on loan to the Segunda where suitors are already lining up.
Last week news broke that Real Zaragoza were already showing interest in signing the 21-year-old due to their need of attacking options for the upcoming season. However, two more clubs have stepped up to the plate. According to a report from Alejandro Skale of AS, Tenerife and Real Oviedo are also watching the young striker and would like to bring him in on loan this summer.
The interest from Tenerife isn’t surprising at all considering the fact that Athletic legend Joseba Etxeberria is the current manager. Asier Villalibre has also been linked with a move there and Athletic view Tenerife as a favorable destination due to the fact that they know players will be able to learn under Etxeberria. Real Oviedo are also in need of attacking options and could potentially be able to guarantee playing time to someone like Guruzeta.
Above all else, Athletic will prioritize Guruzeta’s development. If he is not going to be able to play regular minutes at the first team, they will send him on loan to the Segunda where he will be able to gain valuable experience and prepare to take the next step in his career. Other young players like Villalibre, Peru Nolaskoain, and Iñigo Vicente will also be competing for a place under manager Eduardo Berizzo and would have plenty of options if they left on loan as well.
