Athletic Club Expected To Sign Yuri Berchiche After Agreeing To Personal Terms
Athletic are still in the process of preparing the squad for new manager Eduardo Berizzo and the club has made it a priority to add more quality before preseason training begins on 9 July. The Lions have been chasing PSG left-back Yuri Berchiche for a few months and it finally looks as though they may have reached the finish line.
According to a breaking report from Javier Beltran of AS, Berchiche has already agreed to personal terms with Athletic. The deal would see him become one of the highest paid players in the team along with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Iñaki Williams, and his friend Iñigo Martinez, who is said to have played a part in convincing him to make the switch to the San Mamés.
Berchiche has not featured as much as he expected at PSG and became very interested in returning to Athletic, where he spent two years at Lezama, when the club began to reach out to him. Once an offer was made he decided that he wanted to join Eduardo Berizzo’s project and made his feelings known to PSG. The new manager of the French giants, Thomas Tuchel, will not stand in his way of leaving and is already identifying replacements.
At this point the only thing left is for Athletic to come to an agreement with PSG on the transfer fee. The Parisians initially asked for €30 million, but that number has gone down. Beltran’s report says that Athletic could strike a deal for somewhere around €20 million. Both sides are expecting negotiations to go smoothly and Beltran says that Berchiche will be an Athletic player barring any unforeseen issues.
