Athletic Have Reportedly Submitted An Offer To Sign PSG Left-Back Yuri Berchiche
Athletic Club have already put last season’s disappointing campaign behind them and have been taking the necessary steps to move forward and get back to their winning ways. So far the Lions have hired new manager Eduardo Berizzo and have completed three new signings with Dani García, Ander Capa, and Cristian Ganea all making the switch to the San Mamés. The Basques aren’t finished yet and have their eyes on another prize.
According to a breaking report from EiTB, Athletic have submitted an official offer to PSG to sign left-back Yuri Berchiche. The 28-year-old is said to have a positive outlook on joining Athletic, but the potential move will all come down to PSG who will have to decide whether to not to accept the offer on the table.
Berchiche is widely viewed as the best Basque left-back in football and would be an immediate upgrade over Mikel Balenziaga. PSG are in an interesting position because they need to sell a few players in order to comply with Financial Fair Play and new manager Thomas Tuchel is said to not have a place for Berchiche in his plans, but reports have also suggested that they would like to receive a fee of €30 million for the defender.
Athletic have no intentions of meeting that price, but rumors say that the French giants would be willing to entertain a fee around €20-€25 million. The Basques have likely offered something in this neighborhood, although the exact number is unknown at this point. Athletic’s pursuit of Berchiche shows their seriousness in challenging for Europe again and if they are able to land the left-back it will be seen as a massive deal and a huge step in the right direction.
