Real Zaragoza Showing Interest In Signing Athletic Club’s Gorka Guruzeta On Loan
Gorka Guruzeta is one of the great promises of Lezama and could be the next youth star to make his debut with the first team. Last season he led Bilbao Athletic in scoring with 18 goals in 39 matches and has been rewarded with a call to train with the senior squad during the preseason. The 21-year-old will be given the chance to fight for a place in Eduardo Berizzo’s team, but if he is unable to convince he will leave on loan to the Segunda where he already has clubs looking at him.
According to a report from El Periódico de Aragón, Real Zaragoza are interested in signing the striker on loan in order to strengthen their attack for another run at promotion. The club has already signed Colombian Jeison Medina and have been looking at Sevilla Atletico’s Marc Gual who may not be allowed to leave. This has led Zaragoza to fix their gaze on Guruzeta and Villarreal B’s Adrián Dalmau.
As always, Athletic are going to make the best decision for Guruzeta’s future. If he isn’t able to play regular minutes with the first team, the club will likely decide to send him on loan so that his development isn’t stunted. Right now he has Aritz Aduriz, Iñaki Williams, and Sabin Merino in his way and will also be competing with Asier Villalibre during the preseason. Even if the 21-year-old is not able to earn a place in Berizzo’s squad this summer, his future is very bright and a loan to the Segunda will allow him to continue playing every week and growing as a footballer.
For now the striker is recovering after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia. He is expected to be fully healed and ready to start preseason training on 9 July when all players are to report back to Lezama. Eduardo Berizzo will have 34 players under his command and will have to start making some difficult decisions as he prepares his squad for the upcoming season.
