Ander Capa Says Goodbye To Eibar Before Joining Athletic Club In The Summer

Ander Capa is living his last days as an Eibar player. Over the summer Athletic Club purchased the 26-year-old from their Basque neighbors with the designation of joining in the following summer. That may seem like ages ago, but with only two games left on the calendar Capa is about to make the switch to the San Mamés. On Friday he held a press conference in order to publicly say goodbye to Eibar where he has been since 2005. It was obviously an emotional time for the versatile footballer who found it hard to put his feelings into words.

Ander Capa said an emotional goodbye to Eibar ahead of moving to Athletic Club (AS)

“It is a sad day. I want to thank all of those from the club who have made me feel so welcome and supported for these many years. My time here was full of great moments, harmony, and unity. I have made very good friends and I have always been proud of our fans. They have supported us in good times and bad, always roaring with their heads held high. My best moment was earning promotion to the Primera. That was really special, but there have been so many great moments at Eibar. This year I have tried to not think about my future because I wanted to say goodbye by playing well so that I could say goodbye to the club and fans as God intended. Thank you all, I will always carry Eibar in my heart.”

Ander Capa will officially become an Athletic player when the summer transfer windows opens and will be ready to face stiff competition for a role in the team. The 26-year-old is capable of playing at right-back or right-wing which will give the Lions much needed versatility, but will also push the other players in the team who want minutes. Capa will be directly competing with Oscar De Marcos and Iñigo Lekue which will only make the three of them even better.

He leaves Eibar after playing a huge role in the development and success of the club. He joined their youth system in 2005 and was promoted to the first team in 2012 which was the same year that the Armeros earned promotion to the Segunda. He was an extremely important player in their quest for the Primera and makes his exit after appearing in over 200 games. Capa will bring a lot to Athletic who are very excited to have him at the San Mamés in the upcoming season.
