Iñigo Martinez

“We did a great job today. There was great effort and I think the victory was fair and well deserved. Now we want to give this same level of performance in the next two games. This is sure to give the team confidence moving forward. In the first half we had chances to score, but the ball wouldn’t go in. We knew that if we didn’t score, we would be talking about completely different game afterwards. The team did a great job and we needed it , not only for us, but also for the fans who deserved a match like this. The coach decided to play with three center-backs, which didn’t work well in Girona, but we knew we had to change something and the team was up for the task. When we play together you see a great Athletic. It is a pleasure to play games like this and win. It was a great day in every way. We needed to win and get some good feelings. I think that the fans will be happy with today. We want to finish the season strong.”

Iker Muniain

“I want to dedicate my goal to my wife. We are expecting a baby girl and I’m very happy to dedicate this to her. The win doesn’t do much for us in the table, but the three points give us joy. We knew that Real Betis would be a difficult opponent. We worked hard all week and watched their games so that we could counter what they like to do. It worked because we played a good game. It was time to get a victory at home after so many defeats, especially against a great team like Betis. Personally, I’m very happy to be a starter after so many months and to help the team win with a goal. I feel pretty good for all the minutes I played. Fatigue was noticeable, but that was more because Betis demands a lot out of you. To have played 80 minutes I feel fantastic. Getting to start after being out for so long feels great, I just wish there was 15 games left.”
