Schalke And Nantes Hoping To Tempt Eduardo Berizzo Away From Athletic Club
Eduardo Berizzo is the great hope for Athletic Club. After an extremely disappointing season under Kuko Ziganda, changes will be coming this summer and the club is already in advanced talks with Berizzo to become the new manager when the current season comes to a close. Recent reports claim that the Argentine has told other interested clubs that he plans to sign with the Basque giants and that the only issue left to decide on his contract is that of wages with the two sides only €1 million apart. However, there could be some competition.
According to a report from Radio Marca Bilbao, German club Schalke 04 and French side Nantes have both contacted Eduardo Berizzo with tempting offers to take over as manager in the summer. As things stand it still appears as though Berizzo plans to sign with Athletic after flying to Bilbao last week to continue negotiations, but the arrival of interest from other clubs has the potential to complicate things. That being said, there are reports in Germany that claim that Schalke manager Domenico Tedesco is on the verge of signing a renewal.
Fans are not happy with how this season has gone and are excited about the prospect of Eduardo Berizzo taking over for Kuko Ziganda in the summer. Hearing that two other European clubs are trying to lure the Argentine away will not be received well. That being said, there has been nothing suggesting that Berizzo will hold talks with Schalke or Nantes regarding their interest. Of course, things could evolve over time but Athletic are still in pole position to sign the former Sevilla manager.
Bringing in a new manager is not the only change that will be coming to Athletic this summer. The Lions have also sealed the transfers of Ander Capa and Cristian Ganea, as well as reaching an agreement with Dani Garcia who will see his contract with Eibar expire in June. The Basque giants are also chasing Mikel Merino and Yuri Berchiche, and could even enter into negotiations with Manchester United over midfielder Ander Herrera. President Josu Urrutia will be entering the final year of his term this summer and is determined to rectify the poor season that fans are currently having to endure.
