Athletic Club Signs Antiguoko Standouts Julen Agirrezabala And Lucas Alonso

At Athletic Club youth signings are viewed with the same importance as new additions to the first team. Because of the transfer policy Lezama is always in the spotlight and the Basque giants are constantly adding young talent who may one day hear their name chanted at the San Mamés. Most of these youth signings tend to take place before the summer transfer window when the players are planning the next stage of their development and Athletic have already been hard at work.

Lezama has added two new players from Antiguoko

It was recently announced that the Lions had signed Jon Guruzeta, brother of Bilbao Athletic star striker Gorka Guruzeta, from Antiguoko who are known for sending players to Real Sociedad. However, a fair share have chosen to join Athletic Club and two more names can now be added to that list.

According to a report from El CorreoJulen Agirrezabala and Lucas Alonso will join Lezama this summer after turning down offers from Real Sociedad.

Agirrezabala is a very promising goalkeeper who has represented the Basque youth team on several occasions. He was very close to signing with Real Sociedad and even competed in some tournaments with the club while also training at Zubieta for three years now. In the end he chose to accept Athletic’s offer which was a four year deal with promotions built in. During his second year he will be promoted to CD Basconia and will spend his final two seasons with Bilbao Athletic. Other European clubs were watching Agirrezabala so his addition to Lezama is certainly a very good thing.

Lucas Alonso has spent time as a winger, but more recently made a permanent switch to left-back where he has flourished and clubs have taken notice. Sources say that Alonso was also expected to sign with Real Sociedad but ultimately chose Athletic, although the details of his contract have not been made public. He should be competing for promotion to CD Basconia and will give Lezama another promising left-back to compete for minutes.
