Athletic Club 3-0 Dinamo Bucuresti: Postgame Player Comments
Athletic Club defeated Dinamo Bucuresti 3-0 on Thursday at the San Mamés. It was the first game at home this season and a very important one. After drawing 1-1 in Romania, the Lions needed a strong showing in order to advance to the next round. Raúl García scored two goals and Aritz Aduriz added another to seal Athletic’s future in the Europa League. Following the game Markel Susaeta and Raúl García spoke to the media to give their thoughts on the match. Here is what they had to say:
“We have advanced. We are very grateful and we hope that the next matches will be like this. It was an easy match after the first leg. In the first half we were good and in the second they took a step forward and forced us into our area. We created more chances and after Raúl’s goal everything became simpler. In the last few minutes we were a bit tired. I think the team played well and I don’t think we had much trouble. In European matches anything can happen. We saw that last year and learned from it. Going up 2-0 gave us some peace. I am happy to contribute and do what the coach asks of me. We are at a time where the Club is playing a lot in Europe and that is good for everyone. The more you play, the better for the club. If we play at our level we can continue in the Europa league. We know that this tournament can give us magical nights at the San Mamés and we want to continue living them.”
“We have respected them and knew it would be difficult. We did not want to be eliminated and we are happy to go through and I think this victory will bring us peace of mind. As I say, I always trust this team fully. I don’t look at opponents, I look at us as a team. I know in football that it is common for an opponent to give you a scare, but you have to prepare well. I don’t give value to the goals, it’s the group win that is important. The celebrations were for the family and the moments to come. I feel that we are better than in other years. We love that the fans are here and noticeable in good times and also in bad times. I just want to thank them for their presence.
