Laporte: We Know What Is At Stake And We Have To Play Very Well
Athletic Club’s season will officially begin in less than 24 hours when the Basques take on Dinamo Bucuresti in Europa League play. The Lions are already in Romania preparing for the game and are eager to get the new campaign underway. Following Wednesday’s training session, Aymeric Laporte took the time to speak to the media and said that the goal is to win every game possible and make is far in the Europa League. For that to happen, they must first get a good result against Dinamo.
“We hope to win this game. We always try to win every game, against them and every other team ahead of us. We will try to go as far as possible in the Europa League, but the first step is this match. We will look ahead later. This city is where we lost the 2012 final, but we hope to leave with a better taste in our mouthes this time. It is the first important match of the season. We know what is at stake and we have to play very well. We will try to win from the first minute.”
The defender went on to say that he doesn’t know much about Dinamo, but has watched them play and thinks they are a great team. The Lions will try to focus on playing their own game in Romania and Laporte is excited to finally begin a season at 100%.
“I only know Dinamo based on what I have seen on the field and they are great. We are only thinking about winning and that is what I hope we will do. We are more concerned with hoe we play than them. We have to go to the game and try to control it and win it. They will be very motivated. They play a lot as a team and also at the individual level. They have good players that stand out, but we are going to do our thing. We want a good result in our favor. Personally, I am doing very well. I have finally trained a whole preseason from the very beginning and now I will be 100% in the first game. I will always give my best. We have played several friendlies, 23 intense days of training, and now we want to start the season.”
The last time Athletic played in Bucharest was the 2012 Europa League final which they lost to Atletico Madrid. The Lions are hoping for a much more favorable outcome this time around and know that they need a good result to take back to the San Mames. If Athletic does advance, they will have one more playoff draw in order to be placed into the group stages of the tournament.
