Boveda: Every Coach Wants His Team To Give A Little More Defensively
Athletic Club will begin their season in exactly one week when they will travel to Romania to take on Dinamo Bucuresti in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier. The Lions are hard at work preparing for the clash and they know that every single training session is vital. Following Thursday’s practice, Eneko Boveda took some time to speak to the media and was really open about the fact that he is happy playing anywhere in the defense.“I am comfortable playing both centrally and at right-back. I understand my role in both positions and am happy to play either. I hope that it can maybe be a trait that helps me get more minutes and help the team. Every coach wants his team to give a little more defensively. That is what Kuko is asking of us. We are learning the nuances of Kuko’s system and I believe the team has a good understanding of it all. He likes how things went in Switzerland and now he wants to strengthen the good and add some new things as well. Little by little he is guiding us and we believe that he will be a good coach for us.”
Boveda also discussed the upcoming game against Dinamo, highlighting the fact that they are not an opponent to take lightly. The Lions will have had a very short preseason when next Thursday arrives, but the defender believes that the team is prepared to play.
“The preseason is a period of tests, but then we will have an important match next week. It is a short preseason but we believe that we are prepared. Dinamo is a serious team. We can’t take them for granted or expect the tie to be easy. We knew that whoever we drew would be difficult and they are one of the toughest opponents we could have been paired with. We must take advantage of these friendlies to make sure we are ready. Personally, I want to train well, show my best in the friendlies, and play as much as possible. What is most important is that the team reaches their goals and I hope to play a part in that.”
Athletic will be back in action on Friday when they will travel to Belgium to play Club Brugge in their fourth preseason friendly. Cuco Ziganda has called up 17 players for the match, including Bilbao Athletic’s Aitor Seguin, Peru Nolaskoain, Jon Sillero, and Andoni Lopez. Eneko Boveda was not called up for the match. The Lions will then play Real Valladolid a few days later which will serve as their final tune up game before Dinamo.
