Cuco Ziganda currently has 30 players at his disposal but that number will have to decrease before the new season kicks off. Of those 30 players, four are goalkeepers. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Iago Herrerin are expected to retain roles under the new manager while Unai Simon will likely return to Bilbao Athletic. That leaves Alex Remiro as the one with an uncertain future. However, there now seems to be more clarity about where he will play this year.According to Play Segunda on Cadena Ser, Alex Remiro will sign with CD Huesca for the upcoming season. The 22-year-old has a great chance of being the club’s starting keeper after Sergio Herrera left to join Osasuna.
Along with Huesca, Osasuna and Almeria had shown heavy interest in signing Remiro on loan. However, Huesca’s ability to offer regular playing time was a big selling point and something that Athletic had made a requirement when looking for a loan move. Huesca also competed in the Segunda’s promotional playoff last season, eventually losing out, which is something else that Remiro and Athletic wanted in a potential move so that he could test himself at one of the top clubs.
The report, which was published on Wednesday afternoon, said that the signing could be announced in a couple of hours. That time came and went while Remiro was competing with Athletic in their first friendly of the preseason. Still, those close to the situation claim that the move to Huesca is imminent. Athletic also wanted Kepa Arrizabalaga to sign his contract extension before sending Remiro on loan, so this report may also be hinting that it could happen very soon. Regardless, it is very important that Remiro play regular minutes in order to continue improving and that is exactly what he should be able to do at Huesca this season.
