Inaki Williams Eyed As Roma Look To Replace Mohamed Salah

After becoming a transfer wizard at Sevilla, Monchi has taken on a new challenge by becoming the Sporting Director at Roma. He already has his work cut out for him after the Italian chose to sell star winger Mohamed Salah to Liverpool and will now have to find a way to replace the Egyptians production in the capital. Monchi has his eyes on a few different options and one is a star at the San Mames.

According to a report from Gazzetta dello SportRoma have set their sights on Inaki Williams as Monchi believes that he would be the perfect replacement for Salah due to his speed and versatility in attack.

Roma understands that signing Inaki Williams would be a very difficult thing to make happen. The 23-year-old currently has a contract with Athletic until 2021 that contains a €50 million release clause. The Lions have a policy of never negotiating the sale of players and always refer interested clubs to the clauses. Even if the Italian were able to match Inaki’s clause, they would still have to convince the winger to make the switch. Over the past few months the Lezama product has been very outspoken about his desire to stay at Athletic for many years and become a legend at the San Mames.

Last season Inaki Williams scored eight goals across all competitions and provided just as many assists. He has become increasingly important to Athletic’s system and is quickly becoming one of the club’s most popular players. It is highly unlikely that Roma will actually attempt to sign the 23-year-old and Monchi has already put a list together of other potential candidates. Other clubs such as Liverpool and Juventus have also shown interest in Inaki Williams, but his future looks set at the San Manes.
