Eibar Hoping To Sign Athletic Midfielder Mikel Vesga On Loan

After a successful loan spell at Sporting Gijon last season, Mikel Vesga has made a name of himself and proven that he can play at a high level in the Primera. On the surface this was fantastic news for Athletic, but the Basque giants already have a crowded midfielder and Vesga could find it difficult to play regular minutes. It will ultimately be up to Cuco Ziganda to decided what his role will be, but the 24-year-old definitely has suitors.

According to a report from Javi Beltran of ASEibar are hoping to sign Mikel Vesga on loan for the upcoming season and they are aware that the decision will ultimately come down to Cuco Ziganda.

Eibar had a strong showing in La Liga last season before trailing off over the last few weeks. The club is looking to get even stronger this summer and believe that Vesga would be a great addition to the midfield. Jose Luis Mendilibar is a big fan of the 24-year-old and sees him as the player who could anchor the middle of the pitch for his squad. If Vesga is to leave the San Mames this season, joining Eibar would definitely allow him to continue improving as a footballer.

In addition to Eibar, newly promoted club Levante is heavily interested in Vesga. They could guarantee him a starting spot and he would play a vital role in the team. Sporting Gijon would also love to bring him back for a second season, but their relegation all but negates that possibility as a loan to the Segunda would be taking a step back. In the end, Vesga has proven that he could have a role at Athletic next season and Ziganda may already be counting on him in the squad. The 24-year-old will spend the preseason with the first team and that is when the manager will make a decision on his future.
