Levante Still Hopeful Of Signing Mikel Vesga On Loan From Athletic Club

Mikel Vesga had a lot to prove when he left Athletic on loan in January and he definitely made the most of his opportunity. From the moment he joined Sporting Gijon the midfielder became one of the most vital players in the team and showed that he can absolutely compete in the Primera. Now the 24-year-old is waiting to find out if he will have a role under manager Cuco Ziganda, but he isn’t the only one.

According to a report from Las Provincias, newly promoted Levante is hoping to sign Mikel Vesga on loan but is well aware that it will be up to the new Athletic Club manger to make the decision.

Levante finished atop the Segunda table last season to return to the Primera after a year-long hiatus. With their return comes the need to strengthen the squad and they believe that Vesga would be the perfect addition to the midfield. Despite their interest, the club knows that they must wait to find out if Vesga is part of Athletic’s first team plans for the coming year. There is no denying that the 24-year-old can play at a high level in the Primera, but he does have a lot of competition for regular minutes at the San Mames. He has already been told that he will spend the preseason with the first team, but that doesn’t mean a role in the squad is guaranteed just yet.

Cuco Ziganda will have a difficult decision to make when it comes to trimming down the Athletic squad. Players like Vesga deserve a place in the team, but he also needs to play regularly to continue improving. Additionally, the Lions have been in discussions with Osasuna about loaning a player in return for sealing the transfer of winger Alex Berenguer. Mikel Vesga is reportedly one of the options to spend next season at Osasuna, but playing in the Segunda would certainly be a step down for the midfielder.
