Cuco Ziganda is the new manager of the Athletic Club first team and that means that the Gaizka Garitano era has officially begun at Bilbao Athletic. The Cachorros will be looking to compete for promotion to the Segunda but they will face strong competition from their group. The squad will officially begin preseason training on 13 July and will play in seven friendlies before the next campaign begins.
Garitano’s side will play their first friendly nearly two weeks after beginning training when they face off with CD Getxo at Fadura on 26 July. They will then host the Queens Park Rangers U23 team at Lezama on 28 July before rounding out the month in Florida against Portugalete on 31 July.
In August the matches will become a bit more concentrated with the start of the season just around the corner. The Cachorros will play Burgos FC at Castañares on 2 August, followed by a big games against Numancia in Navaleno on 5 August and against Zamudio on 9 August in Gazituaga. Garitano’s squad will then close out the preseason on 12 August against local rivals Barakaldo in Sodupe, Bizkaia.
