Eibar Joins Leganes In Pursuit Of Athletic Club Midfielder Javi Eraso
Cuco Ziganda has some big decisions to make this summer. The new Athletic Club manager has a full squad and will need to let some players leave in order to trim down the roster a bit. Gorka Iraizoz and Gorka Elustondo have already said their goodbyes, but they likely won’t be the only ones. Midfielder Javi Eraso is also expected to make his exit this summer and potential suitors are already lining up in hopes of signing the 27-year-old.
Leganes’ interest in Eraso did not come as a surprise. The midfielder spent two years at the club in the Segunda before making his return to Athletic. In a recent interview, manager Asier Garitano admitted that he would like to bring Eraso back to the club but also noted that he realizes it won’t be easy to do if Cuco Ziganda decides that he wants to keep the midfielder.
Eibar is the newest club to be linked with Eraso but it could be a favorable move. Athletic’s neighbors have been steadily improving since earning promotion to the Primera back in 2014. In fact, Eraso’s ability to play as a box-to-box midfielder would fit the club’s playing style and he would be able to continue competing for the chance to play in European competition.
Unless something changes Javi Eraso will leave the club this summer. With so many players sitting in front of him in the pecking order it just makes sense for Athletic to allow him to leave in order to play more regularly. The Lions could actually give him the chance to leave for free, much like they did with Ibai Gomez last summer. Were that to be the case, Eraso would be able to hand pick his next destination. Both Leganes and Eibar are growing clubs that Eraso could help improve. Eibar would be close to home, but he is familiar with Leganes. In the end, it will be his decision to make.
