Alex Remiro Will Be Sent On Loan To The Segunda

Athletic Club has a problem that most other clubs would love to have. Lezama continues to produce exceptional keepers, but there just isn’t room for everyone to play. Even though Gorka Iraizoz has left Bilbao to sign with Girona, there are still three keepers in the squad for the upcoming season. Cuco Ziganda only wants to use two keepers this season so that means someone will be leaving. As expected, that player will be Alex Remiro.

According to a report from Juanma Velasco of MarcaAthletic will seek out a loan move for Remiro who will compete next season in the Segunda.

Remiro actually began last season in the Segunda when he was loaned out to Levante. But the young keeper was not able to lock down a starting role and was called back to Athletic during the January transfer window. The Lions know that there will be several suitors for the 22-year-old, but they want to receive a guarantee of playing time before making any decision. The entire purpose of Remiro leaving on loan is so that he can get regular minutes to continue improving his game.

As of now there are no specific clubs being linked with a move for Remiro, but it is believed that there is interest from a few teams. While fielding offers, Athletic will likely wait until Kepa Arrizabalaga signs his new deal before making a final decision about Remiro’s next 12 months. This also means that Iago Herrerin, who joined Leganes on loan back in January, will return to the role of Cup keeper behind Kepa. Herrerin has been vocal about his desire to fight for a starting role, but overtaking Kepa will certainly be no easy feat.
