Athletic Club Will Play Liverpool In A Preseason Friendly In Ireland
The Athletic season has finally come to an end and the club is now busy making preparations for the next campaign. Besides transfers and contract extensions, the Lions must also schedule their preseason friendly games in order to get the players in shape before the regular season kicks off. Kuko Ziganda and company will officially play their first match on 27 July in the first leg of a Europa League qualifier, so the preseason will begin earlier than most clubs. On Tuesday, the Lions officially announced their first friendly of the preseason.
Athletic Club will play against Liverpool on 5 August at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. The match is scheduled to kick off at 18:15 and tickets should go on sale soon.
This match will act as the preseason finale for Liverpool and would be a great way for them to finish preparing for the new campaign. However, it could be quite complicated for Athletic Club. The Lions will play their first Europa League qualifier on 27 July and the return leg will take place on 3 August. Having a big international friendly just two days later may prove difficult, but the Lions see this as a great way to extend their brand and allow international fans to watch a game.
Interestingly enough, it appears as though Athletic’s new kit provider, New Balance, has also played a role in this friendly being scheduled. New Balance has also been Liverpool’s kit provider since 2015 and the American company has been working hard to build their clients and show off their work. Even though Athletic’s European campaign will have already started before this friendly is played, it will be a great test for the Lions and a strong tune-up game before the La Liga season officially kicks off.
