Iturraspe, Bengoa, And Olaetxea Will Leave Bilbao Athletic This Summer

Now that the season has finally come to a close it is time for clubs everywhere to start making decisions about their squads. For Athletic Club, strengthening the reserve team is just as important as the first team and moves are already in the works. The Basques have already added the likes of Gaizka Larrazabal and Iker Munoz for the upcoming season and they aren’t finished yet. However, there will also be several players that will say goodbye to the club and three of those names have been confirmed.

According to a report from DEIAthere are three players who will leave be leaving Bilbao Athletic this summer – Gorka Iturraspe, Martin Bengoa, and Lander Olaetxea.

Gorka Iturraspe is the younger brother of Ander Iturraspe and plays roughly the same position. The 23-year-old has always been a bright prospect since joining Lezama at 10 but injuries and stiff competition have prevented him from making a run at the first team. This season he played in 18 matches, making seven starts. Iturraspe knows that leaving Bilbao Athletic will allow him to play regular minutes somewhere else.

Bengoa and Olaetxea, both midfielders, are the two eldest players in the reserve side at 24 years of old. While both have played big roles for Bilbao Athletic, they do not have an avenue to the first team and will leave the team this summer. The report does say that Athletic may try to keep a buy-back option on both players for the future, but nothing has been decided. Midfielder Gorka Perez is also likely to leave this summer as well, though nothing has been decided at this point. With these three players leaving the club there will be major holes to fill at Bilbao Athletic. It is always sad to see players leave Lezama and we wish nothing but the best for Iturraspe, Bengoa, and Olaetxea.
