FIFA 17 is one of the most popular video games in the world and every year more and more people pick up a copy. Despite being professional footballers, many players also enjoy the game and Athletic Club’s Iker Muniain is said to be one of the best around. On Friday, EA Sports organized a FIFA 17 tournament at Lezama in which Iker Muniain and his partner Javi Eraso finished on top. The tournament was covered by El Desmarque Bizkaia.
The first round saw Muniain and Eraso take on goalkeepers Alex Remiro and Unai Simon. The game ended 2-1 thanks to a penalty. Muniain, playing as Aduriz, finished off the chance to help his team to victory. The other first round game saw Sabin Merino and Inigo Lekue beat the pair of Mikel Balenziaga and Ander Iturraspe by the score of 2-0. Balenziaga was quick to congratulate his opponents while Iturraspe, jokingly, continued to complain that Merino kept putting his hands in his face.
The championship game saw Muniain and Eraso take on Merino and Lekue and it was no contest. Muniain and Eraso cruised to a big 3-0 victory to take the crown at Lezama and bragging rights over all of their teammates. Eraso said after the game that, “Our philosophy was to abuse them. To win every ball and every race.” Muniain jokingly finished off his statements with “And then I tattoo them!”.
With such a stressful week behind them, in which the Lions play three games in six days, it is good to see the players having a bit of fun. Athletic will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to take on Alaves in their last Basque Derby of the season. Ernesto Valverde’s side is unbeaten in Derbies this season and will need to keep that going if they are to qualify for Europe for a fourth consecutive year.
