Asier Villalibre Officially Joins Numancia On Loan For The Remainder Of The Season

Nearly one week ago it was reported that Numancia was looking to make an emergency signing due to injuries in their squad. The Segunda club had their eyes set on Bilbao Athletic star Asier Villalibre and Athletic Club also favored the move because it would allow the striker to get some valuable experience against stronger competition. The only problem is that the league had to approve the move since the transfer window is not currently open. Now, it looks as though the move will go through.

According to reports from El Correo on Tuesday afternoon, La Liga officials have approved the loan. This means that Asier Villalibre will be joining Numancia until the end of the season. Later in the day Athletic officially announced the loan move.

Villalibre is one of the most exciting young players to come through Lezama in recent history. The 19-year-old is strong, can finish in any way, and has wonderful positional awareness. He made his first team debut earlier this season, giving an assist and exciting fans of the Basque giants. Since returning to Bilbao Athletic a few months ago, Cuco Ziganda’s side has surged up the table and are still in contention of finishing in the promotional playoff zone.

This move will provide Villalibre with the chance to test himself against stronger competition and make his case for promotion. He was already expected to spend the preseason with the first team and this loan move could further cement this opportunity.
