President Josu Urrutia Will Discuss The Future Of Ernesto Valverde On Thursday

The future of Ernesto Valverde continues to be the biggest topic of discussion in Bilbao. Txingurri, as he is affectionately known, has made history at Athletic and it is no secret that the club wants him to stay around after this season. However, potential offers from Barcelona and Arsenal have caught his attention and it is believed that he will be leaving the club this summer. After months of speculation, we may finally get some clarity later this week.

According to a report from AS, President Josu Urrutia will be giving a press conference on Thursday at 12:30pm Bilbao time to discuss the state of the club and he is expected to touch on Valverde’s future as well.

It should be noted that this press conference has not been called specifically to discuss Valverde, but that is expected to be one of the topics. Urrutia holds regular press conferences to discuss the state of the club, but the topic of Valverde is expected to be one of those topics. Valverde has already said that he does not want to discuss his future or make any decisions until the current season ends, so there is a chance that Urrutia will not be able to give any concrete information on the matter.

It was recently reported that Valverde had already told Urrutia that he will leave at the end of the season, but the manager soon denied those reports. The belief in Bilbao is that he will, in fact, make his exit this summer. Valverde has never been a manager to stay in one place for very long and his current four year stint at Athletic is the longest he has ever been at one club. Urrutia is expected to make a heavy push to sign Osasuna’s Alex Berenguer and Borussia Dortmund’s Mikel Merino in hopes of convincing Valverde to stay. If Txingurri does leave, Bilbao Athletic manager Cuco Ziganda is expected to take his place.
