Levante Looking To Sign Mikel Vesga On Loan For The Upcoming Season

Since leaving Athletic Club to join Sporting Gijon on loan in January, Mikel Vesga’s career has blossomed. He had struggled to find minutes behind a deep midfield at the San Mames but playing regular minutes at Sporting has seen him become one of the brightest newcomers in all of La Liga. He is expected to play an important role for Athletic next season, but there are clubs hoping that they can sign him.

According to reports across the Basque Country and Las ProvinciasLevante wants to sign the 24-year-old on loan for the upcoming season.

Levante is leading the race for promotion back to the Primera and has been busy adding strength to their squad for the upcoming season. Now, they have turned their sights on Vesga, hoping that they can convince Athletic to loan him out for another year. They do have quite a good relationship with the Basque giants and may try to use that as a means to negotiate some sort of deal.

In truth, it seems very unlikely that Athletic will let Vesga leave again, especially after the season he has had at Sporting Gijon. They have no reason to let him go. The only way the loan seems possible is if the Basques manage to sign Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund this summer. The addition of Merino would give the club a lot of strong players in the midfield which could limit Vesga’s minutes. Still, the 24-year-old has proven that he can compete in the Primera and is expected to play an important role at the San Mames in the next campaign.
