Arsenal Eye Ernesto Valverde As Arsene Wenger’s Successor

Ernesto Valverde has been weighing up a move to Barcelona for a few months now with many believing that he will in fact leave Athletic Club. However, the Catalans have been slow to contact to the manager who is known for not waiting around very long. According to many reports in Spain and the Basque Country, there is a new club interested in Txingurri.

Reports claims that Arsenal is lining up an approach to make Ernesto Valverde the successor of Arsene Wenger who could be on his way out of the club this summer.

This is the worst season in recent memory for Arsenal and they currently find themselves in danger of not even qualifying for European competition. Fans have been calling for Wenger’s head for years now, but the poor results this season could finally make his firing a reality.

Ernesto Valverde has said in the past that he is interested in coaching in England. If the Arsenal interest is real, and Barcelona continue to drag their feet, he could be on his way to the Premier League.

Athletic Club fans remain hopeful that Valverde will sign a new contract with the Basque giants. On Friday, Txingurri will coach his 300th game with Athletic, further extending his record for most games overseen in Club history. Valverde is already a living legend in Bilbao and his exit would be grieved by fans. If he does leave the club, Bilbao Athletic manager Cuco Ziganda is the heavy favorite to replace him next season.
