Athletic Club Signs Left-Back Aitor Cuenca To Lezama

This is the time of year when Athletic Club gets really busy singing new youth players that will join Lezama in the summer. So far, the club has been able to ink a couple of exciting prospects for Bilbao Athletic, but the lower youth levels are also getting some new faces. On Friday, it was confirmed by our friends at LaCanteraDeLezama.com that Athletic has signed Danok Bat left-back, Aitor Cuenca, who will join Lezama when the season ends.

Cuenca is a solid left-back, but is also capable of playing further up the pitch. He is strong for his age and capable in the air. He has also shown flashes during set pieces and can improve that area of his game at Lezama to really become a dangerous target man in the box. Once source said that Cuenca is much more mature than his age would suggest and that he has leadership qualities that can blossom as he continues his development.

According to LaCanteraDeLezama.com, Cuenca earned his place at Lezama in front of scouts during a trial friendly. On 28 March, he competed at Lezama in that friendly and scored a goal against Athletic in a 3-2 loss. He was able to show that he is more than capable of playing with the Cachorros and that he has the potential to develop into a fine footballer under the Athletic trainers.

Cuenca is expected to join the Juvenil A team this summer along with fellow newcomer, Unai Vencedor. The pair will be incorporated into the team and provide new energy and competition for the current Lezama players. Athletic’s Basque-only policy requires incredible dedication to youth identification and development and the club continues to be ahead of the curve when it comes to adding the best local talent to Lezama. Despite having already signed several players over the last few weeks, there is reason to believe that more are on the way.
