Inaki Williams is one of the brightest young talents in European football and it is only natural that bigger clubs will take notice of him. Over the past year both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have taken an interest in the 22-year-old, but he chose to sign a new contract with Athletic in January and raise his release clause to €50 million. Now, there is a new club watching the Lezama product.
According to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo, Juventus now have an eye on Inaki and will be sending a scout to watch him compete with Spain’s U21 against the Italian U21 side in Rome this week.
Juventus are said to be in the market for new attackers and are interested in players like Real Madrid’s Isco and Mateo Kovacic as well as Barcelona’s Rafinha. Inaki Williams is a new name to their list, but they realize that signing him will not be easy. His release clause is set at €50 million and the Italian giants are said to be unwilling to come anywhere near that asking price. The only spent that amount of money twice in the club’s history – purchasing Gianluigi Buffon and Gonzalo Higuain. They also have history of trying to deal with Athletic when they tried to sign Fernando Llorente a few years ago, so they are aware that the Basques will not negotiate at a lower fee. It will be the release clause or nothing, and right now they won’t even entertain the thought of paying that much for the winger.
If Inaki’s release clause wasn’t enough to turn away Juventus, he has also just recently stated in an interview that he has no plans of leaving Athletic. The 22-year-old views himself as a future star of his boyhood club and wants to become a legend at the San Mames. He has already rejected an offer from Liverpool and it may only be a matter of time before Athletic Club raises his release clause even higher.
