Inaki Williams is quickly becoming one of the biggest names in La Liga with several European clubs taking notice of the talented winger. After signing a contract until 2021 that saw his release clause raised to €50 million, interested parties have been made aware that it will take a large chunk of money if they want to sign the 22-year-old. However, in the end, Inaki will have the final say on a possible departure and he has no plans to leave his boyhood club. The Lezama graduate is currently on international duty with Spain’s U21 side and had the opportunity to speak to reporters on Tuesday. When asked about his future at Athletic and possible interested clubs across Europe, he was quick to reject any potential offer in favor of staying with the club that has given him everything.
“I am very happy at Athletic. I feel proud to be here and I do not want a change scenery. I have no interest in being anywhere else. Interest from clubs like Madrid? Real Madrid is a great club, but I am at Athletic and this is a big club. I see a big future for myself at Athletic Club. They have given my everything.”
Inaki was also asked about how he is enjoying his time with the Spain U21 team and was quick to say that he is proud to be called up, while shutting down any idea that he is still suffering from racist remarks during games.
“It is a reward for all the hard work I have been doing at my work. I’m proud to be called up. Racism? No, I go to every stadium and have respect. It is ugly and sad that in this century we are still doing this. I enjoy my football, have fun, and love my team.”
Inaki Williams will be in action for Spain U21 on Thursday when they host Denmark. The 22-year-old is expect to start at least once during this international break before getting back into action with Athletic Club. The Lions will restart their La Liga campaign on 1 April when they travel to El Sadar for a huge Basque Derby with Osasuna.
