Inaki Williams and Yeray are currently on international duty with Spain’s U21 side and preparing for their game against Denmark on Thursday. The pair got the chance to speak to reporters on Tuesday and had some nice things to say. Yeray, who is on his first call up with the U21 team, highlighted his joy at taking this next step in his career. Meanwhile, Inaki was asked about the possibility of Ernesto Valverde leaving for Barcelona. The winger said he will be happy for his coach no matter what decision he makes, but he hopes he will stay in Bilbao.
“This call is a leap in my career. I am very happy that this day has come, and hopefully I will get many more. I am comfortable with all my teammates. Some of them I already knew and others I’m getting to know little by little. I am delighted to be here. My cancer? I am feeling great. Everything happened so fast this season: my debut, illness, and now playing international. Honestly, I am just very happy. My goal is to play at a high level and do my best possible to help win these two games.”
“Would Ernesto Valverde be a good coach for Barcelona? Well, he wouldn’t be a bad coach for Barca, but we want him to stay at Athletic. We’re happy with him here, Ernesto is a crack. He’s a great coach, one of the best in the world, and he has done a great job here. He is the coach with the most games at Athletic and we has made history. We have constantly been in Europe and we are very happy with him. Of course he will have the last word and whatever he decides I will be happy for him. Hopefully he stays with us, we think thats the best idea.”
Spain U21 will be in action on Thursday when they host Denmark U21. Inaki Williams is expected to start, though it is unknown what role Yeray will have in his first spell with the team.
