Aitor Paredes Makes Bilbao Athletic Debut In Loss To Leioa

It’s been nearly one decade since Aitor Paredes joined Lezama as a 10-year-old. Over the years the defender has always stood out as one of the best players in his age group and has rapidly progressed through the youth levels at the club. Last season Paredes was promoted to CD Basconia where he featured in 29 games and played well enough to be called up to train with Bilbao Athletic over the summer.

Due to heavy competition in the Bilbao Athletic squad and the need for regular minutes, Paredes wasn’t promoted and returned to Basconia where he has been a leader in the team coached by Patxi Salinas. The decision has worked out well for the 19-year-old who has played at a very high level for the Basauritarras this season and was rewarded for his excellent performances on Friday.

With Jon Sillero currently injured and Javi Murua unconvincing in his limited minutes this season, Paredes was called up to Bilbao Athletic for the team’s trip to Leioa and was named to the starting lineup. The young center-back played the full 90 minutes in his debut and looked composed alongside his teammates and against a higher level of competition.

Basconia teammate Beñat Prados made his Bilbao Athletic debut several weeks ago and has since gone on to feature for the team on multiple occasions with Oihan Sancet spending time with the first team. With Sillero set to miss more time through injury it’s possible that Paredes will have more opportunities moving forward if he continues to play well. As one of the top defensive prospects at Lezama, Aitor Paredes is showing the quality and potential to become a very good player for the club.
